Sanity is seeing what's in front of your face, and not seeing what isn't.
Max Reason, 1988

Welcome to icegods university.  These pages describe the nature of consciousness, plus the fundamental processes of consciousness.

Consciousness is the way animals perceive and learn about the world, and [abstract] conceptual consciousness is the most complex form we know, practiced by humans for thousands of years, and more recently by ICE and NICE.

The kind folks at icegods sponsor this university, but we have a great deal.  While they develop the most revolutionary technology in the entire universe, we sit back and relax.  We need quiet, time to reflect, and thoughtful discussions to understand the answers to these questions:

what is conceptual consciousness?
how does consciousness work?
what is consciousness for?

Our approach has been called realistic, naturalistic and observational.  But we have no interest in labels or pre-existing formalisms.  Our interest is conceptual consciousness.  Our methods are simple, direct, straightforward, to the point.  We want to understand conceptual consciousness.  Period.  For our own satisfaction, our own personal good.  After all, fundamentally, a human is his conceptual consciousness.  A human can lose arms, legs, lungs, kidneys and heart, yet still be human, and still be the same person.  Yes, consciousness is the indispensable human attribute.  When a person looses all consciousness, a bag of chemicals remains, but not a human being.

Surprisingly, conceptual consciousness is not very complex or difficult to understand.  As evidence, we explain the fundamental nature and function of consciousness on the following page: "consciousness in a sound-bite".  Then we start at the beginning and explain consciousness and conceptual consciousness more thoroughly.

We thank Max Reason for allowing us to extract the non-confidential information in the following pages from a highly confidential paper he wrote in 1988. Unfortunately, vastly superior newer versions of this document contain far too much proprietary information.
